That makes the bosses being encased for a few second and fully recover health you either only encase 2, or none. If one person keeps them encased you can't beat the bosses unless you have the needed cr to burn through one of the bosses in seconds.
If the guys, you went in there with, have been after their feat they should have told you so before entering. But if you did the beginner mistake a simple "don't touch the lanterns" should have been enough after one round. At least that's what I do. This was just a issue of failure to communicate. If it was so important they would have waited just long enough to be sure you knew what was needed before rushing in. Don't let it bother you.
